French market love

French markets are a feast for all the senses, from the stunning displays of meat, fish, fruit and vegetable to the delicious smells of fresh baked bread, roasting chickens and  fresh flowers.  Even ripe cheese such as camembert  and goats cheese add to the heady fragrant atmosphere! Here are photos from some of my favourite French markets in Sanary sur Mer, Bandol, Antibes and Nice in the south of France; Bergerac in the south west and Montreuil Sur Mer and Etaples in the north.

French markets in the Dordogne

I’ve just come back from a week’s holiday in the Dordogne and as ever I was overwhelmed by the quality and variety of everyday foodstuffs, seasonal produce and of course some more luxury gourmet goodies, in the local markets there.

Provencale market in old Antibes

The delightful Marche Provencal on  Cours Massena in old Antibes is everything you expect from a traditional French market.  With stalls groaning under the weight of fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of local specialties including freshly made socca from a mobile wood oven, this really is a foodie paradise!
