French markets in the Dordogne

I’ve just come back from a week’s holiday in the Dordogne and as ever I was overwhelmed by the quality and variety of everyday foodstuffs, seasonal produce and of course some more luxury gourmet goodies, in the local markets there.

Food markets in Nice

From luscious ripe fruit and veg to spices and sticky sweet marzipan, food markets in Nice are a must see.  The two best known are in Cours Saleya (mainly tourists) and  La Liberation (mainly locals).

Nice Festival of Folklore

French Shopping Provence textiles

Celebrating the culture, language and local traditions, Lu Festin de Nissa (Nice Folklore Festival) takes place at the Jardins de Cimiez in May. These gardens also boast Roman ruins and the Museum of Matisse. The women in the dance troupe wear traditional dress in designs typical of Provence – the inspiration for some of our tablecloths!

French Vintage Style Shopping in Nice

Nice is a vintage lover’s paradise, with a regular brocante market held in Place Garibaldi on the third Saturday of the month. A stroll round the town’s old quarter will also reveal retro and shabby chic treasures on almost every corner.
